Health and Safety or the Economy?

The debate over when the country will return to operating as normal is all anyone is talking about during this quarantine and there are two main trains of thought. Some believe that eventually, the need to save a failing economy will take over and the Trump administration will allow people will return to work even with the risks of contracting COVID-19. Others say that the President will wait until after the peak of the virus in the US to give the go-ahead on people returning to work. The President himself said recently that he hopes for the country to return to normal near Easter. Whether that is wishful thinking or has some evidence behind it is unclear, but as of now, most experts say that the deaths-per-day peak will be sometime in the next two to three weeks, far beyond what the President hoped for. There is also the question of whether or not people will return to work willingly, given both the risks and the stimulus package sent out by the government. Most people say that this package was far too little money to actually support their needs during quarantine so it seems that the widespread decision to return to work will be based mainly on people's perception of risk and whether or not they think the government has a grip on the virus. Apparently, much of the public is already ignoring their stay-at-home orders so it shouldn't be that much more difficult for them to return to work.
